Questions
Here are some answers to questions we anticipate you might have. If you have a question about anything please feel free to send us a text or an email: us@ryanandnikki.com.
- Are there visa requirements to visit the European Union / Spain?
There are no requirements to obtain a visa or register prior to entering the EU if you are a US citizen. The ETIAS system (European Travel Information and Authorization System) may change this but it has been delayed to late 2024 or 2025.
- Are there any COVID requirements?
There are no COVID vaccination or other requirements in the European Union or Spain at this time. However, we highly encourage everyone to be up-to-date on their vaccinations prior to attending for their own health and the health of everyone else around you.
- Does Uber work in Barcelona?
Unfortunately, Uber is not reliable in Barcelona. There are two other options that are pretty reliable. Free Now and Cabify. Free Now will call you regular taxis but the destination is preset and payment is done through the app making it easier than hailing a taxi on the street. Cabify is very similar to Uber.
From the Airport, we suggest exiting the terminal and getting in the normal taxi line. It is not possible to call a Free Now or Cabify car from the airport. Your taxi driver may not speak English but you can easily communicate your destination by pulling it up on Google Maps.
- Getting from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona
We suggest using normal taxis to get from the airport to Barcelona. You will see signs that direct you to the taxi line in the terminal. It is not possible to call a Free Now or Cabify car from the airport. Public transportation from the airport to Barcelona is possible but can be inconvenient depending on where you are trying to go.
- Do I need cash?
It might be a good idea to carry a little bit of cash with you (less than €100) for emergencies. But all places in Barcelona accept credit card. We highly recommend adding a credit card to your phone so you can tap-to-pay. Tap-to-pay using your phone does not require signatures so it'll make transactions a lot more convenient versus using your physical credit card. We don't even carry a wallet anymore in Barcelona as we pay for everything with our phone.
If you are an Amex user, we suggest bringing at least one backup (Visa or Master Card) as some establishments do not accept Amex.
- Is Barcelona Safe?
Yes! Barcelona is safe. However, there is a problem with petty crime (e.g., pick pocketing and bag stealing). As long as you keep your belongings close, you should not have any problems at all. As with everywhere else in the world, keep aware of your surroundings.
- Keep your purse in front of you.
- Put your phone in your front pocket.
- Do not put bags on the table or hang them on the back of your chair when you sit on a restaurant's terrace (inside restaurants are fine).
- Do not carry too much cash (less than €100) or your passport. Leave them in a safe place at your accommodations.
- Do I need an adapter for my electronics?
Yes! You'll need an adapter for Type C plugs. We really like this one. Also, check your electronics to make sure they can accept 220-240V. Most electronics are fine (all our Apple products charge just fine). Be careful of things like hair dryers, hair curlers, portable clothing steamers, etc, as most of these will break if you plug it into a European outlet.

We have created a Google Photos album so we can easily share pictures over the weekend. We encourage everyone to share pictures everyday so we can enjoy them together in real time.

- Can our kids come?

There are many of you that we have not seen in a very long time. We are hoping to spend some quality time with each and everyone of you to catch up and just have a jolly good time. This is our top priority for the weekend.
